Thank You

Looking back in January, when 2020 rolled in, I remember saying to myself, this is going to be another difficult year to be a letter carrier. Mail volume declining. Amazon parcels declining in area’s where Amazon have their own drivers delivering parcels. Route inspections coming in the spring when mail volume is usually low. Consolidating casing still being tested in Patchogue and Great Neck Post Offices.

Never, in any of our wildest dreams, would we predict the country going through this COV-19 Pandemic. Many businesses are closed with people unemployed, families having to stay in their homes, people getting sick one by one, and the worst of it all, people dying. It feels like an episode from The Twilight Zone.

I remember on 9/11/2001 when our country was going through a National tragedy, as letter carriers, we delivered mail and customers thanked us for making them feel, that everything would be alright again someday.  Once again letter carriers all over the country are delivering mail with another National tragedy going on, to give people some normalcy in this country. They come to work every day and do their job, even with all the stress they’re under, including family members getting sick.

I just would like to say THANK YOU for all you’re doing while you fight to stay healthy every day from this terrible virus. I’m so proud of all you letter carriers. Please take all safety precautions from the moment you wake up and drive to work, until the moment you come home safely. Use your masks, gloves, sanitizers, and wipes to protect yourselves. If you continue these safety precautions and keep our distance from one another, we will all be alright again someday.

I would also like to put out a special THANK YOU to our healthcare workers. Every day they do a tremendous job by continuing to save lives while risking their own lives. I also would like to say THANK YOU to all our other essential workers. Without them we would have a tough time with our day to day lives.

Be safe and careful, and keep smiling.
