Last Call for Retiree Raffle
This will be the last article before the Retiree Brunch on Sunday September 14, 2025. A few months ago, I sent out a retiree raffle that only retirees are allowed to participate. The raffle is $10.00 for six tickets, which gives you the chance of winning the Grand Prize of $1,000.00 or 1st prize of $250.00. You do not have to be present to win! The winners will be picked at the Brunch and if you are not in attendance, we will notify you that you won. If you still have the raffles, please participate and mail them back to the Branch. If you did not receive a raffle ticket book, please contact me at the union office and I will mail one out to you.
Remember you have to be in it to win it!
Last year’s winners were: The Grand Prize was Michael Birbiglia of Wantagh for $1,000.00 and the 1st place winner was Vicky Bering of Levittown for $250.00 Congratulations to the both of them. Also, if you are planning to attend the Retiree Brunch, please notify the Branch of your intention to attend.
If you are a newly retired member within the last couple of months and have not received the raffles and would like to participate, give me a call at the union office. Also, if you are a newly retired member and would like to stay in the union after retirement you must fill out 1189 form and the dues are $30.00 a year or $2.50 a month that will come out of your annuity payment. This will entitle you to attend the Retiree Brunch and keep you up to date on all matters of concern that a retiree would/could have. You will continue to receive the LIMB and have access to all pertinent information that affects retirees. With the attack from the current Federal Government on federal workers’ rights, pensions, health benefits, collective bargaining, retiree COLA’s and union activity it is wise to stay in the union to protect what you have as they are trying to chip away at it one piece at a time! We all must be proactive in protecting what we have, or we could lose benefits! The Branch has a Director of Retired Members, and the National has Dan Toth Director of Retired Members. His staff can assist you with OPM issues and any life-changing events that occur after retirement. You must be a NALC union member if you have the NALC Health Benefit Plan. Just remember united we are strong divide we are weak. With the way of the environment in Washington D.C. these days it is especially important we stay united to protect our rights and benefits that we fought hard for, for current retirees and retirees in the future.
Another way to stay active is to contribute to COLCPE. This is the NALC political action fund. The funds that are collected are distributed to political candidates that support our issues and need campaign assistance. If you think that UPS, Fed Ex and Amazon just to name a few do not support their political candidates that support their point of view you are naïve! Unions are the backbone of the middle-class blue-collar workers and they are trying to make us extinct! So, stay active and vigilant to protect what we have not to lose it in the future!
