The Time Has Come

After 36 years as a Letter Carrier, NALC member, and Union Representative, it is time to say goodbye.

I would like to express my gratitude, and consider it an honor to have worked alongside of my comrades at Branch 6000 representing the members of the National Association of Letter Carriers.  I would also like to thank President Walter Barton and the other Branch Officers of the Executive Board, both past and present, for the guidance, wisdom, and support they have shown me throughout the years.

I would like to thank the many Brother and Sister Letter Carriers throughout the Long Island District in the offices I was given the honor to represent throughout the seventeen years I served as a full-time officer.  Thank you for the fight you instilled in me.  Remember, it is important for you to find your place, and get involved.  Don’t take anything for granted.   Nothing is owed to you, and everything is earned.

Over the years, I have written about what carriers should do, and should not do to keep carriers safe and out of harm’s way.  About the things to look out for, or what not to tolerate; about the respect that’s due, and the respect that should be given.  Stick together as a Union, and don’t be divided.  Please remember that.

No, I am not going to get teary eyed, or get a lump in the throat as I put my thoughts to paper.

There are so many people, and so many things I will miss.  But, it is time now to say goodbye.

Goodbye and Thank you!

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays to All!

Carol Brown

Retired Branch 6000 Officer
