Time to Ride into the Sunset

This will be my last LIMB article before my retirement. I can’t believe the day is finally approaching after almost 40 years. I started my employment with the Postal Service on March 31, 1984, and was assigned to the Syosset Post Office in the Long Island District. We all think about this day, happening someday in our future, while we are working. It is one of the toughest decisions to make. You all will know someday when the time is right to retire. There is a whole new life ahead, full of experiences just waiting to happen and I’m very excited about it.

I want to express my sincere appreciation for everything Branch 6000 has done for me throughout my career. I would like to thank Walter Barton, the president of Branch 6000, for having the confidence in me. I would also like to thank all the officers of Branch 6000, both past and present, for their help and guidance throughout the years as first a Letter Carrier, and then a Union Representative.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Richie McLehose, the current Executive Vice President, and future Branch President, for being my mentor, and close friend. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for him. I’m sure he’s going to make a great President, as well as my good friend Tom Siesto, will make a great Executive Vice President. With their leadership the members will continue to be in good hands. Congratulations to the New Full-Time Officers coming onboard. I’m sure with the talent they have they will do a tremendous job for our branch.

I like to wish Walter Barton and Carol Brown a healthy and happy retirement.

I would like to thank my Shop Stewards. Thank you for your help and support. Keep fighting the violations of the contract. I’ll miss you all. Thank you for all you do and did for me.

I would also like to thank the members. Thank you for your support. I made a lot of friends along the way. Protect your routes from the constant pressures of route inspections. Make sure you take your lunch breaks and comfort stops. Don’t rush to run home.

I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Always remember, be safe and keep smiling.

Vincent Calvanese
