Surrounded and Under Siege

We have been under attack for some time now. With Trump currently in office, it has only been magnified. His “Big, beautiful budget” is actually an attack on the middle class and poor people in this country. This is Robin Hood in reverse. Steal from the poor and give to the rich.

It is unfathomable to me that these spineless congressional Republicans would follow the President down this road. They seem to forget that they represent all of the people in their districts, not just the wealthy. Why they bow and grovel at the feet of this dictator is the question of the century. Shame on them for throwing the poor, disadvantaged, elderly and federal workers under the bus while at the same time giving goody bags to the ultra-rich. This administration has done nothing but lie and bully anyone and everyone who opposes their agenda to get their way. How do I know they are lying?Their lips are moving. The attacks on federal workers are unprecedented. Denying many of those federal unions the right to collectively bargain and have representation. Don’t think for one second that we are exempt from the same type of mistreatment. We are targets and the fight is coming.

Here are a couple of things in the new budget proposals.

  • Increasing the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) contribution rate for existing employees up to 4.4 percent. This was just allegedly taken out of the bill as of 5/19/25.

  • Cutting retirement benefits by immediately eliminating the FERS special annuity supplement. This was just modified to take effect 1/1/2028.

  • Reducing annuity payments by calculating a retiree’s annuity based on their high-five salary average (instead of three) as of 1/1/2027. This was just modified to take effect 1/1/2028.

Our benefits are not free. We earn them through hard work and contributions. We were promised these benefits when we started employment. Now they want to change or take away these benefits which would cause most FERS employees to lose tens of thousands over the course of their careers. All of this is to pay for tax cuts for the uber wealthy.

Also included in these tax packages are attacks on social security, Medicare and Medicaid. Cuts to these programs will have a chilling effect on almost every person in this country at some time or another. Denying medical care. The closure of hospitals due to the lack of payments from Medicare/Medicaid since in many instances those hospitals get 50% or more of their revenue from those two plans. Laying off doctors, nurses, aides etc. will only compound the problems we already have in this country with regard to medical care. I guess that if you are rich and entitled, you can afford to pay for that care, but the rest of us will be left in the cold. Another avenue to steal from the poor to line the pockets of the rich.

Let’s not forget the proposed cuts to food pantries, school food programs and things like meals on wheels. All of whom serve the underprivileged and food insecure PEOPLE in this country. SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

You need to contact your representatives every day to voice your displeasure with these issues. Even if this passes, you need to keep the pressure on your congressional delegates. They sell you on one thing then stab you in the back when you’re not paying attention. SO, PAY ATTENTION – STAY INVOLVED. It’s your future! Don’t let them steal it from you.

In another attack on the USPS and its workforce, Trump pushed David Steiner to the head of the class to become our new PMG. What a joke. This man is on the board of directors from our major competitor, FED-EX. This is like putting a fox in the henhouse to guard them. This disgusting tactic has just brought us a step closer to death. This man has a history of strong anti-union positions. He is a notorious union-buster, slashing jobs, replacing workers with machines. All of our competitors have spent years attempting to take our business away. This just brings that reality a step closer. This is a bad policy. So not only are Republican congress spineless, but you can also add the Board of Governors to that list. What the hell were they thinking with this move? This is a direct assault on all of the Postal Workforce and communities we serve. Rural communities will take the biggest hit. Wake up people, this is all very real.

I close with saying the Democratic party has some fault in all of this. They fail to put forth a plan that works for all of us. They put up candidates that do not resonate with the base. They push issues that only select groups are concerned with. They have lost their compass and are struggling with an identity. They better get their heads straight or we are going to continue in this cycle of imperialist vison. That does not make us better, it only gives the entitled more power. We need to push our Democratic leaders to represent all of us, not the few!
