Food Drive Results
The Executive Board of NALC Branch 6000 would like to “thank” all the letter carriers on Long Island and all the other labor unions that participated in this year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Thanks to your participation we helped raise 360,000 pounds of food for about 200 gaylords filled with food that our partner Island Harvest will distribute to local communities on Long Island. This year, food donations supported Island Harvest in providing more than 500,000 meals to Long Islanders in need. We could not do this without you, the Letter Carrier! You played a crucial role in providing resources, funding, and awareness to this campaign, making a significant impact on our efforts to combat hunger, and supporting communities in need. Your generosity helps drive positive change and make a difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity. So, a big thank you to all the letter carriers who supported Stamp Out Hunger! Hunger is in every community that we serve from the North Shore to the South Shore to Queens/Nassau border to Montauk Point! So, your support goes along way and the food that we collected stays here on Long Island!
Throughout the school year tens of thousands of Long Island kids count on school meal programs to get the food they need to be ready to learn and play. Parents must make hard choices to find additional funds in order to provide food during the ten weeks of summer break. Poverty, for so many, is a traumatic experience. Especially when families are juggling ongoing rising costs at the supermarket, gas pumps, high medical co-pays, rent and more.
That is why it is very important that we participate in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive that takes place every year on the second Saturday in May. Your participation goes a long way in this worthy cause and provides relief to families in need.
I know this day is not an easy day for the letter carrier, but it is just one day a year, and it makes such an impact on families in need. “Thank you” again for your support and I am looking forward to working with you again next year to Stamp Out Hunger on Long Island!
